I Got Dental Work Done And Got Screwed By Them !! Should I Sue ?? Or What ?

I went in to the dental office knowing I had a lot of cavities needing to be filled and maybe even a root canal and so I said to them that My JAW was broken years ago and I have 3 plates , so they know and they took x rays and said I had 8 cavities to fill and they were on the right side, and possilbly 1 of them was a root canal , now they did the work and I told the lady that If it looks at all Like a root canal they lets do the root canal and so she did the work and only did the cavities, now I cant chew on the right side of my mouth cause I feel every little thing and so I went back and they put me with another dentist in the same office under the same owner and that dentist said I have to go to a specialist cause my root is curved , now shouldn’t they have said that before they did anywork because if they would have I would have gone to the specialist in the first place, they charged me so they could make money and now I have to go and pay even more to see a specialist when I could have paid that if I wouldn’t have gone to the dopes who messed my tooth up! Whats my recourse for this kind of MALPRACTICE and can I DO IT MYSELF ! I IM not rich and still need them to fix what they screwed up PLEASE HELP ME DUE I SUE LOL !!!!

it will be difficult to sue the dentist in this case for malpractice. from the posting it sounds like you went to the dentist, had a root canal and fillings done, which you paid alot for, the root canaled tooth started to hurt, then you went back, and then another dentist said you have to go to a specialist, which you will have to pay alot for. now your stuck with two bills. is that right?
first let me say, i’m a dentist, not a laywer but i can at least tell you my prospective.
if you want to sue for malpractice (meaning the dentist used for poor clinical judgment), i don’t think you’ll win. for one, a root canal is not out of the scope of what a dentist can perform. root canals do vary in difficulty, like a bent canal, retreatment of a previous root canal, etc, but still within what the original dentist can do. root canals are 95plus percent successful and you fell into the five percent.
i believe malpractice would be if there is gross neglect and caused you permanent harm. like if a dentist pulled a tooth that wasn’t supposed to be pulled. implant placement caused parathesia. something like that. (please lawyers/dentist correct me if i’m wrong)
i don’t think you’ll have much luck in the courtroom, however, what you could do is ask the dentist to reimburse part of the fee and have it put towards a crown restoration after you see the specialist.. remember after a root canal you’ll need a crown to help protect that tooth. the dentist will probably be more willing to do that then just to hand over cash. the dentist would still like to keep you as a patient and he may be willing to pay part of the crown fee.
remember that specialists’ fees are much much more to begin with. many patients like to have general dentist attempt to perform a procedure before a specialist does, in order, save some money. of course it’s up to the dentist to figure what would more predictable.
this is a tough economy for everyone including you and the dentist. people are having to become more creative and more flexible these days. ask the dentist, it certainly doesn’t hurt.
    good luck and take care.

Everyone hurts when they have had work done at the dentist,
especially when a lot of work is performed on the teeth..
Your jaw is open for a couple of hours, the gums hurt, the teeth hurt too.
The root could have curled after the root canal through no fault of the dentist.
There is no grounds for malpractice suit, call your insurance company and see
if there is another dentist that will see you for a second opinon, I never heard that
a curved root would cause all the problems you are describing.

Seven or eight years ago in Florida, I had a bridge done by my former dentist. Due to a lack of professionalism, I decided to change to a different dentist and four years later while the dentist was doing a different thing in my mouth, he discovered that one of the tooth that is holding the bride was decaying, I went back to my former dentist to get my X-Rays and I made a mistake telling him about that tooth, while he was looking for my X-Rays, I noticed that he tried to cover with his body some of them and I did not get all my X-Ray and now the tooth is getting worse to the point that the bridge is falling apart. My actual dentist told me that the bridge needs to be removed and I need four implants that will cost me almost $20000.00. My question is: Can I sue the dentist who set up the bridge? I am sure he knew about the decay and I am suffering from headaches, sinus problems, bad odor from my mouth and when I am sleeping, a brown and nasty liquid comes out of my mouth and it stains my blanquets and pillows. I can’t eat properly, suffering from stomach problems and a variety of issues. I will appreciate if someone especially a lawyer, dentist etc would give some input. Thanks in advance.
