I Recently Had A Horrible Experience With A Dentist, And Wonder If It Is Considered Malpractice?
or what else I can do about it. Long story, I went to a new dentist to get crown lengthening and a build up from a root canal and I asked to be premeditated because I am terrified of dentist and have been so in the past. He refused and said I would not feel anything because the nerve endings are dead, I trusted him and let me tell you when he cut into my gums for crown lengthening I sure felt that! He tried to numb me but the pain even from the shot was horrible I said I had enough, he called me a baby and told me to have it pulled if I have this much trouble getting work done.
Well I thought what a bad dentist… well the same day a friend of mine came to the same dentist unaware what I had been through and the Dentist and the Dental assistant were talking about me and my tooth that they said I just needed to get extracted and I was a horrible baby and speaking about my confidential file in front of my friend unaware that I knew them (I mean talking like first and last name). IT went on for an hour so on and so forth of what the dentist was speaking about me. Isn’t this a severe confidentiality breach? What can be done? If he does this with me he obviously does this with other patients. I feel completely humiliated and like my privacy was not respected at all.

Wow, I don’t know whether you can really do much abotu after the appointment, because unless your friend got a recording of them saying this, then I don’t think you can do much about that part. But I do think you should complain about the way they treated you during your appointment, and definitely change dentists asap, but make sure before you go through with treatment that they will premeditate you. c:
It’s hard to find a good dentist. I got cleaning for my teeth and the one dentist used a waterpick which I think wouldn’t hurt but she shanked between my teeth to get a some plaque off and it felt like a shot.
Malpractice is more related to negligence that results in injury.
So I don’t think what you describe falls under that.
What you describe is a dentist and office staff that is completely unprofessional. If, when they were talking about you, they referred to you by name that could be a breach of confidentiality, but then you would have to prove it and it would be a “he said, she said” situation.
You best bet is to write a formal letter of complaint to the dentist and practice and take your business elsewhere.
If you want to pursue a confidentiality issue, it would be a civil matter, there is no LAW per se on the issue….(no malpractice as there was no injury)
If you do not like the office , don’t go there.
But it does sound like you are a difficult patient, and should only be seen by offices that do oral conscious sedation, YOU should research before you step foot in the office, and make sure the know you ABSOLUTELY need this. You will PAY for the privledge, but you will get what you want.
