If a doctor can be sued for malpractice, and a lawyer disbarred, should the journalist profession have a code?
Ethics?

journalists should be written off?
They do… its called ‘libel.’
a. defamation by written or printed words, pictures, or in any form other than by spoken words or gestures.
b. the act or crime of publishing it.
c. a formal written declaration or statement, as one containing the allegations of a plaintiff or the grounds of a charge.
Journalists can be sued over it.
They do have a code of ethics but you’re comparing apples to oranges. Doctors and Lawyers must go through years of study and be licensed. They must be held to a higher standard than a journalist!
Perhaps as a corollary to your Q: should non-professions such as Travel Agents be permitted to pose as professions by using the term “Consultant” (of their commission-chasing shop staff) so confusingly?
They should but they don’t and they won’t .
